The New Lynn rail trench totaled some 50,000m³ of concrete trench pour involving 7,500 tonnes of reinforcement and 100,000 cubic metres of bulk excavation was completed in the period from October 2008 to December 2009. The project aimed to improve the efficiency of the Western Auckland transport services with more frequent rail carriages while improving road and pedestrian traffic and safety around the rail network.
