Making the World a Greener Place
Located 3.5kms from Pacific Steel sits Sutton Park School, a thriving school covering six hectares within Otahuhu. Over a two week period energetic students and staff of Sutton Park combined with an enthustatic team from Pacific Steel to clear, prepare and plant a garden that would educate students on the benefits of garderning and healthy eating. As Pacific Steel is New Zealand's largest recycler, converting 90,000 car bodies each year into reinforcing steel, it is strongly focussed on improving the environment and educating young children on the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.
With Dale Harvey (www.daleharvery.com) instilling the eager and helpful students on how to plant correctly, the students joyfully emmersed themselves within their new environment. "Many students have a close connection to the steel plant...everyone knows someone that works there" said Harvey.
It is for this reason that Pacific Steel will look to form a close relationship with Sutton Park school, ensuring that future generations know the satisfaction that can come from gardening and growing vegetables.
All of the tools and equipment used were kindly donated by Bay Engineering Supplies. Special thanks also to Onsite Recruitment for their involvement.
